Sikkim Govt cabinet approves construction of 4100 houses worth over Rs 800 crore towards construction of 2100 houses under Punarvaas Awas Yojana and 2000 Houses under Janta Housing Colony.
The Government proposes to provide rent for a period of three months at a rate of Rs. 5000/month in order to facilitate the relocation of the displaced persons to a rented residence and to enable them to return to their normal lives as soon as possible.

What is Sikkim Punarvaas Awaas Yojana ?
The Sikkim Punarvaas Awaas Yojana is a new housing scheme launched by the Government of Sikkim to provide new homes to families displaced by the recent floods. The scheme will also provide financial assistance to help families rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
The Sikkim State Cabinet met on October 17, 2023, in the Cabinet Hall of Tashiling Secretariat, Gangtok.
The scheme will construct 2100 houses in safe and suitable locations for flood victims whose homes were totally washed away or severely/partially damaged and are no longer habitable. The government will build these houses on government land or land donated/acquired for this purpose.
