The Jharkhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has approved the Abua Awas Yojana, a state-supported housing scheme to build 8 lakh pucca houses for the homeless in three phases at a cost of Rs 16,320 crore.
Objective of Jharkhand Abua Awas Yojana
The objective of the Jharkhand Abua Awas Yojana is to provide three-room houses to the needy within the next two years. The scheme is targeted at the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society, including poor people who do not have a house of their own, deprived people, such as widows, orphans, and disabled people, laborers, farmers, tribals, backward classes, and Dalits.
Under the scheme, 2 lakh houses will be constructed in the first phase (financial year 2023-24), 3.5 lakh houses in the second phase (financial year 2024-25), and 2.5 lakh houses in the third phase (financial year 2025-26). The houses will be constructed on a cluster basis, meaning that colonies of group of houses will be created.

- The Applicant should not get any benifit from any housing scheme run by the state and central Government like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural / Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Awas Yojana / Birsa Awas Yojana / Indira Awas Yojana etc
- Belong to one of the following categories:
- Scheduled Castes (SCs)
- Scheduled Tribes (STs)
- Other Backward Classes (OBCs)
- Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)
- Homeless and destitute families
- Victims of natural calamities
- Released bonded laborers
