What is Abua Awas Yojana ?

The Abua Awas Yojana is a significant initiative by the Government of Jharkhand to provide housing to the needy. The scheme is expected to benefit lakhs of people in the state.

The Jharkhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has approved the Abua Awas Yojana, a state-supported housing scheme to build 8 lakh pucca houses for the homeless in three phases at a cost of Rs 16,320 crore.

Objective of Jharkhand Abua Awas Yojana

The objective of the Jharkhand Abua Awas Yojana is to provide three-room houses to the needy within the next two years. The scheme is targeted at the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society, including poor people who do not have a house of their own, deprived people, such as widows, orphans, and disabled people, laborers, farmers, tribals, backward classes, and Dalits.

Under the scheme, 2 lakh houses will be constructed in the first phase (financial year 2023-24), 3.5 lakh houses in the second phase (financial year 2024-25), and 2.5 lakh houses in the third phase (financial year 2025-26). The houses will be constructed on a cluster basis, meaning that colonies of group of houses will be created.

• The Abua Awas Yojana (AAY) is a state-supported housing scheme in Jharkhand that aims to construct 8 lakh pucca houses for the poor and needy free of cost.
• Target beneficiaries: The scheme is targeted at the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society, who are often unable to afford housing on their own. By providing them with free or subsidized housing, the Abua Awas Yojana will help to improve their quality of life and well-being.
• Type of housing: Three-room pucca houses with kitchens.
• Approximatly 2 lakh Beneficiary can be benifited under this scheme.
• The beneficiary will also receive up to 95 days of unskilled labor at the current wage rate (which may be revised from time to time) for the construction of their house under MGNREGA for this scheme.
• Size of houses: 31 square meters
• Assistance amount: Rs 2 lakh per eligible beneficiary
• MGNREGA support: 95 unskilled man days at the current wage rate
• Construction schedule: Three phases over three financial years:
  • Phase 1 (FY 2023-24): 2 lakh houses
  • Phase 2 (FY 2024-25): 3.5 lakh houses

Eligibility of Abua Abas Yojana

To be eligible for the Abua Awas Yojana, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a permanent resident of Jharkhand state.
• Be a member of a household that does not have a house of their own.
• Have an annual income below the poverty line.
• The Applicant should not get any benifit from any housing scheme run by the state and central Government like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural / Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Awas Yojana / Birsa Awas Yojana / Indira Awas Yojana etc
• Belong to one of the following categories:
  • Scheduled Castes (SCs)
  • Scheduled Tribes (STs)
  • Other Backward Classes (OBCs)
  • Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)
  • Homeless and destitute families
  • Victims of natural calamities
  • Released bonded laborers
